Corgi 269 Lotus "Second version"

Prototype : Lotus Esprit Version 1

Metal top and base, with clear windows resin periscope, side and rear fins the rear frame is made of plastic.

Prototype : Lotus Esprit Version 2

Standard model with clear windows.

This was done by Corgi themselves before the improved Esprit went into production. I guess it was done to see how the redesigned rocket mechanism aligns with the holes in the windows.
The rocket firing mechanism on both versions are totally different even the fin and rudder holding mechanisms were changed as well.

Corgi 269 James Bond Lotus Esprit

This is an hard to find Corgi 269 James Bond Lotus Esprit, original first issue model and box released in 1977 to tie in with the Roger Moore Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me, in white and black with red 007 bonnet decal, retractable fins and spoiler, rear window missile tubes with 10 missiles including original sprues and clips for holding car to inner card display.

This wonderful 007 model with fully working rocket firing mechanism, and in its original colour card window box which although it has a slight crumple to cellophane is all pretty much intact, with a perfect complete inner tray and fastenings and a near perfect unmarked outer box - very nice!

This Bond collectible, now over 30 years old, is getting harder and harder to find in this condition.

Launched in 1977 the 269 Lotus is an impressive piece, nicely packaged in a film strip decorated box. Two main variations are to do with the 007 logo. the second O either does or does not have a Russian Hammer & Sickle printed within, this is also true of the Juniors packaging. Many minor variations include the word New on the window front, the Corgi logo in upper or lower case, instructions within the box or printed on the bottom etc. etc. Car variations are limited to the size of the periscope button which although is said to have been reduced for subsequent releases both variations are found in all boxes. I did see once a clear windowed version which may have been pre production.
